Grandparents Tips September 2011
Schools starting, if you have a child one year away from Kindergarten, please teach him/her to hold their crayons properly and color as much as he/she can in the lines.
Work with your child while they are coloring pictures to develop his/her small motor skills. Video games help the child's thumb but does nothing for the other fingers.
Make hollow letter Bb for him/her and have them color the letters to get the feel of the shape of the letters.
The children must learn their letters and sounds before they begin to learn how to read. That way they can sound out the words they do not know.
